Dextrose is used as a filler in direct compression and wet granulation method for preparing ODTs and chewable tablets. In multiparticulate modified release systems, the high solubility of dextrose enhances its performance as a pore-former. It dissolves in the aqueous environment, leaving behind water filled channels thus increasing the drug's release rate.
