Fluorouracil (5-FU)
Fluorouracil, also known as 5-Fluorouracil or 5-FU, is a pyrimidine analogue which is given as an injection to treat cancers of the breast, colon, rectum, stomach, and pancreas and as a cream to treat actinic keratosis and certain types of basal cell skin cancer.
Fluorouracil belongs to the group of medicines known as antimetabolites. It interferes with the growth of cancer cells, which are eventually destroyed.
