Lactose
Lactose is a disaccharide of galactose and glucose and is freely soluble. For each particular pharmaceutical application, it's possible to select the most suitable grade of lactose. In modified-release, it is possible to use lactose as a pore-former agent in the coatings, which results in an improvement in the hydrophilicity of the coating.
