Duramac Short Oil Alkyds

Conventional Solids Short Oil Alkyd Resins

Duramac Short Oil Alkyds - Description

Duramac® short oil alkyd resins have the lowest oil content (less than 40%) in the alkyd family, characterized by the fastest drying rate of the unmodified alkyds. As a result, this fast dry means that short oil alkyds are the first choice in product finishing (OEM) where high production rates are critical.

Compared to most modified alkyds, they have superior durability and corrosion resistance and are versatile in application. Due to their fast dry, they find limited use in brushing enamels. They also have limited compatibility with weak (aliphatic) solvents.

A number of these alkyds are modified with benzoic acid, which stops the polymerization or chain extension process. These products are referred to as chain-stopped alkyds. The high Tg of the benzoic acid molecule gives these resins their fast tack-free time. Duramac® chain-stopped alkyds are used in place of conventional short oil alkyds when a faster tack-free time is required.
