Hybridur - Description

HYBRIDUR polymer dispersions are a line of anionically stabilized urethane-acrylic hybrid polymers.  These innovative materials have been found to exhibit excellent wetting, adhesion, barrier and film properties when used in air dry, baked or crosslinked high-performance coatings on a wide variety of metal, wood, plastic and previously painted substrates.

HYBRIDUR dispersions offer the formulator a cost-effective alternative to standard polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) without sacrificing performance, and enhanced performance properties over blends of PUDs and acrylic emulsions in coatings for primer, topcoat, and clear coat applications.

HYBRIDUR dispersions are easy to formulate and offer rapid dry times. They provide the same ease of use and VOC compliance of typical waterborne dispersions with the added benefits of outstanding barrier properties, durability and UV resistance in both air dry and baked systems.  These hybrid polymers are prepared by a proprietary process technology that leads to an intimacy of interaction between the polyurethane and acrylic structures that cannot be achieved by blending. They are targeted for use in high-performance, VOC compliant coatings and ink applications.

More information about Hybridur

HYBRIDUR 540 was designed particularly for use in environmentally friendly high-gloss wood, plastic, concrete and metal coating applications. It is especially useful in coatings requiring high solvent resistance, including isopropanol.  It is a hard, sandable and buffable polymer that must be adequately coalesced to deliver maximum performance. It has good resistance to UV radiation, but will yellow slightly on extended exterior exposure. It can be blended with HYBRIDUR 570 to improve its film formation at reduced co-solvent levels. Performance can be enhanced by heating and/or by crosslinking.

HYBRIDUR 570 can be used for both clear and pigmented (gloss) coating applications in both interior and exterior exposures on metal, wood, concrete and plastic substrates. Coatings based on HYBRIDUR 570 exhibit outstanding adhesion to a wide variety of substrates (especially plastics), excellent corrosion resistance, weathering resistance, early block resistance, and water hold out.  Performance can be enhanced by heating and/or by crosslinking. HYBRIDUR 570 can be modified with HYBRIDUR 580 to improve hardness. HYBRIDUR 570 should be the first choice for corrosion resistant metal coating applications.

HYBRIDUR 580 was designed for use in wood coating applications or to provide an improved hardness material for use with HYBRIDUR 570 dispersion in metal, concrete or plastic coating applications.  It is a hard, sandable and buffable polymer that must be adequately coalesced to deliver maximum performance. HYBRIDUR 580 has excellent early block and abrasion resistance as well as outstanding adhesion to a wide variety of substrates, including plastics.  It has good UV and yellowing resistance on exterior exposure. It can be blended with HYBRIDUR 570 to improve its film formation at reduced co-solvent levels. Performance can be enhanced by heating and/or by crosslinking.

HYBRIDUR 870 is an NMP-free (<0.2% solvent), anionically stabilized urethane-acrylic hybrid polymer dispersion. It exhibits excellent wetting, adhesion, barrier, and film properties when used in air-dried, baked or cross-linked high-performance coatings on a wide variety of metal, wood, plastic and previously painted substrates. HYBRIDUR 870 dispersion is the most cost-effective alternative to standard polyurethane dispersions (PUD) available today.

HYBRIDUR 878 is an NMP-free (<0.1% solvent), anionically-stabilized aliphatic urethane-acrylic hybrid polymer dispersion. It exhibits excellent wetting, adhesion, and barrier and film properties when used in air dried, baked or cross-linked high-performance coatings on a wide variety of metal, wood, plastic and previously painted substrates.  HYBRIDUR 878 polymer dispersion is a cost-effective alternative to standard aliphatic polyurethane dispersions (PUD) available today.   It is easy to formulate and offers rapid dry times and high hardness. Coatings based on this product provide the same ease of use and VOC compliance of those based on typical waterborne dispersions, but with the added benefits of outstanding durability and UV resistance in both air-dried and baked systems. Their solvent-free nature allows formulating latitude when choosing coalescing solvents.  HYBRIDUR 878 can be used for both clear and pigmented (gloss) coating applications in both interior and exterior exposures on metal, wood, concrete and plastic substrates. Because of its high hardness, it is especially suitable for use on floors and furniture. Coatings based on HYBRIDUR 878 have been found to perform similarly to those based on HYBRIDUR 580.  Performance may be enhanced by heating and/or by cross-linking. Blending of HYBRIDUR 878 with other HYBRIDUR polymer dispersions is possible to tailor performance properties such as elongation, adhesion and chemical resistance
