Softcel®

Polyether Polyols for the Production of Viscoelastic Foam

Softcel® - Description

Softcel® polyether polyols were designed for the production of viscoelastic foam, providing expanded formulating and processing flexibility via a slabstock or box foam process. This enables the production of a wide range of viscoelastic foam grades with consistent performance properties that can be tailored to end-use applications.

More information about Softcel®

Softcel® U-1000 is a low molecular weight polyol. It may be used with other slabstock performance polyols from Covestro to produce Softce®l V foams, which are characterized by their slow recovery and high damping characteristics. Softcel® Polyol U-100 is typically used with Ultracel® 3000 polyol or Arcol® HS-100 polymer polyol to produce Softcel® V foams. When properly formulated, these foams exhibit slow yet complete recovery from deformation, low resilience, high vibration damping and body conforming characteristics, which may make them useful in a variety of applications, including mattresses and mattress pads, pillows, furniture, wheelchairs, sports equipment, acoustical panels, gasketing and automotive interiors.

Softcel® VE-1100 is a unique polyether polyol for the production of slabstock and molded viscoelastic foam. It provides expanded formulating and processing flexibility and is designed to offer enhanced reactivity and promote cure of high density viscoelastic foams. This allows for the production of a wide range of viscoelastic foam grades with consistent performance properties that can be tailored to end-use applications. Softcel® VE-1100 is typically employed as the primary polyether polyol in TDI based formulations of most standard density and firmness grades of slabstock foams. Firm grades may require an addition of a high solids polymer such as Arcol® HS-100 polymer. Low level addition of a high hydroxyl foam modifier/extender is generally recommended to control foam recover rates. Most other standard chemical intermediates may be employed. Use of a lower functionality MDI such as Mondur® MRS-20 may be beneficial for processing very high density slabstock grades and is recommended for production of molded viscoelastic foam.
