SYN-ESTER GY-500 is a high molecular weight polymerized ester lubricity additive designed to totally replace or substantially reduce the amount of extreme pressure additives such as chlorine or sulfur in industrial oils and coolants. In straight oils, the maximum effectiveness is obtained when SYN-ESTER GY-500 ester is formulated with a phosphorous containing additive such as ADDCO 360P or an oil soluble active or inactive sulfur compound.
When using SYN-ESTER GY-500, the amount of active sulfur can often be reduced by about 50-75%. In soluble oils and semi-synthetics, no extreme pressure additives other than SYN-ESTER GY-500 are normally required.
SYN-ESTER GY-500 polymeric ester is ashless and burns off cleanly. Due to the low degree of unsaturation, SYN-ESTER GY-500 does not cause staining and has excellent thermal, oxidative and hydrolytic stability. Therefore, it is ideally suited for use in straight oils where performance at high temperatures is required. SYN-ESTER GY-500 is soluble in all naphthenic oils. Solubility in paraffinic oils depends on the particular oil selected, ester concentration, oil viscosity and the degree of hydrotreatment. It is an excellent replacement for lard and related lubricity additives. Since SYN-ESTER GY-500 is a saturated branched chain polymer, it is expected to be less susceptible to bacterial attack than conventional fatty additives. SYN-ESTER GY-500 contains no chlorine, sulfur or phosphorous.
